Bronchoalveolar Lavage
نویسنده
چکیده
To investigate the safety of repeated bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) and the variability of commonly measured parameters from BAL to BAL in the same subject, we performed a total of 59 BALs in 16 normal volunteer subjects. The BAL was performed with 120 ml (three aliquots of 40 ml) of room temperature, normal saline in a lingular subsegment. Four subjects had five BAL, three had four BAL, and nine had three BAL performed at minimal intervals of six weeks. The BAL analysis included percentage of lavageate returned, cell number, and percentage of alveolar macrophages, lymphocytes, neutrophils and eosinophils. Relatively similar percentages of lavageate were returned on each lavage. There was considerable variability in the cell numbers obtained both within and between subjects, although some subjects had consistently high, low, or normal

متن کاملThe Value of Bronchoalveolar Lavage in the Diagnosis of Sputum Smear-NegativePulmonary Tuberculosis
Background and Objectives: Sputum smear staining for acid-fast bacilli is initial approach to the diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) but more than 50% of cases are sputum smear-negative. This study was aimed to investigate the diagnostic value of fiberoptic bronchoscopy (FOB) guided bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) in patients suspected to have tuberculosis. Methods: This prospective cross-...
متن کاملFirst Report of the Isolation of Nocardia thailandica from the Bronchoalveolar Lavage of a Patient in Iran
Nocardiae are Gram-positive, filamentous, aerobic, relatively slow-growing, and weakly acid-fast bacteria which cause nocardiosis in humans. We describe a 53-year-old patient with chronic bronchitis referred to Al-Zahra Hospital, Isfahan. A bronchial washing sample was taken from the patient. A Nocardia-like microorganism was detected in microscopic evaluation. Based on the phenotypic and 16S r...

Objective(s):To investigate the effect of Eucheuma cottonii on alveolar macrophages (AM) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in bronchoalveolar lavage fluids (BALF) in particulate matter 10 (PM10) coal dust-exposed rats. Materials and Methods: Ten groups, including a non exposed group and groups exposed to coal dust at doses of 6.25 (CD6.25), 12.5 (CD12.5), or 25 mg/m3 (CD25) an hour daily for 6 ...
متن کاملIdentification and Antifungal Susceptibility Testing of Candida species isolated from Bronchoalveolar Lavage sampl
The frequency of fungal infections in immunocompromised patients, particularly by Candida species, has increased in recent years. Colonization by Candida species in respiratory tract in susceptible hosts may play an important role to precede disseminated candidiasis. This study was designed to identify Candida species from bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) samples and determination of antifungal sus...
